Welcome to Bunyonyi Food Forest Foundation (BFFF)

Renewing Relations with Land, Water and People
Kashekye & Kyevu, Lake Bunyonyi, Uganda

Bunyonyi Food Forest Foundation signifies Lake Bunyonyi
as a vibrant and food-sufficient region,
able to support itself through
creative advocacy and multilayered relations

Designed as a forest ecosystem – a most ancient, fertile & health-enriching system on Earth!

Bunyonyi Food Forest Foundation (BFFF), is a registered “Community-based Organization” residing within Kashekye village of Lake Bunyonyi, Uganda.  BFFF’s vision is the strengthening of families, cultures, and ecosystems towards a healthy, prosperous future for current and succeeding generations.

BFFF recognizes that community health is inextricably connected to ecosystem health. It upholds respectful Indigenous relations and knowledge sharing that reflects over 70,000 years of accumulated, plant wisdom.

Within an AgroEcological Food Forest model, nutritiously varied crops and plant medicines are grown while regenerating ecosystems, increasing biodiversity, and revitalizing leadership roles of women, youth, and Indigenous Knowledge Keepers.

Other multi-layered programs support the safety, health and well-being of BFFF communities.

As a community model, hub, and demonstration site, BFFF’s broader vision is to expand its ideas and practices across Lake Bunyonyi region and and beyond.

I am very happy with what I am seeing.
The land for the Bunyonyi Food Forest
is perfect for sustainable permaculture.
It will become the center for transforming the area.
Let it spread out like a wildfire so that everyone
can preserve the environment,
have the food, have the income,
and preserve the land into the future…

(BFFF co-founder, Judith Bakirya – Award-winning permaculturist)

“…I feel that you have a capable team.
The community vibe is definitely high, you have the people mobilized and the expectation and involvement is high.
I also felt the genius of it so if you can keep the focus it will be amazing”

(King, May, 2024 – after BFFF filming with Kashekye & Batwa community)

“I totally agree with you King. I felt the same way” (Tasha)
