Bamboo-planting Event (April 30, 2025)

Bunyonyi Food Forest Foundation is grateful to Self Help Africa who donated and delivered 50 bamboo shoots to BFFF land. BFFF community members – from all genders, ages, and backgrounds – came together to plant these bamboo to strengthen BFFF’s long shoreline, help decrease soil erosion, and provide future opportunities for creative and sustainable energy and prosperity.

As noted in CGTN Africa, Uganda is “embracing bamboo as a key part of its environmental campaign“, as it can “rapidly restore the country’s lost forest cover and provide a clean energy alternative for those reliant on wood fuel“.

During this bamboo-planting event, BFFF community members harvested vegetables donated to BFFF land by Lake Bunyonyi Rotary club, and took care of trees, shrubs, and plants previously planted (during Tree-planting event, Feb. 20, 2025).
