Batwa (Kyevu) plant Indigenous medicines at BFFF and speak to their value and usage.
Note:
All videos spoken in language of Batwa with English translations.
Indigenous Batwa administering plant medicine to Tyson's Grandma, Mauda Kyitaragabirwe (suffering from arthritis). Mauda is over 100 years old, a Plant Knowledge Elder, and the last survivor of historic Punishment Island. (Click on text to view BBC video)
Informed by Indigenous agricultural system (Haudenosaunee nation), BFFF is planting companion plants of corn, beans, and squash to model a self-sustaining ecosystem (corn provides stalks for beans, beans fix nitrogen, and squash provides ground cover). George, Noah, and Hillary demonstrate this system to community through role play. (Click on text to learn more about 3-Sister's Origin.
